Monday 7th May

Tuesday 8th May

21:30

Back!  Timed it right too - that's the last books just come off the hill.  The backmarkers are back in the Parc Ferme and everyone is safely home in daylight, which is the main thing.

We've got eight more books to key, then it's the final checks, so we're probably looking at something around 11pm or so for today's full results to come out.  We'll get there as soon as we can!

18:30

That's the books starting to come in now folks - so far we've had Laggan Locks, Forest Gate and Meall Damh A/B....Creag Nan Gobhar and Creag Lundie are rumoured to be on the way, and now that the road has reopened, the rest should come in thick and fast.

The committee are off to the Civic Reception, hosted by the Council to thank everyone involved in bringing the trial to Lochaber, and that means that I won't be around to update online for the next few hours.

However, you'll be able to follow the action on the SSDT Live Results page, so all is not lost!  That tells you how many sections are keyed and how many are outstanding too, so you'll be able to keep tabs on how many books we're waiting for.

14:00

Apologies folks, but better late than never!  As I'm sure you'll have gathered, it's been a bit of a manic morning here in the SSDT Office, hence the lack of time for sitting at the computer, but we've got there....here's your Tuesday blog!

The weather is a little on the overcast side to say the least - we couldn't see the Ben from the office this morning, but that's cleared throughout the day and in the past hour or two we've even had the odd glimpse of blue sky.  Maybe that's a good sign for tomorrow, or maybe I'm just tempting fate!  It's pretty cold out there just now too - not windy though, so that's a blessing at least!

Following the trial...

ThereMonday's Route are a number of ways that you can follow our progress throughout the day.

You can check out our route for the day (by clicking on the map to the right) and head out to watch some sections, if you're lucky enough to be in the Fort area.

If you need a little more detail on how to get to the most popular sections, you'll find it through the Spectator - Find A Section option at the top of the website. Simply click the + sign beside the group you're interested in, then click the box in the middle of the four arrows on the map that appears to flag up the location of the groups.  From there you can zoom in and navigate around the map as much as you want to get your bearings - you can't go wrong!

UPY1SmallIf you are more interested in where our riders are on the route, then you can find that out too!  Once again we're delighted to introduce the UPY Spot Track system.  There are eight GPS tracking units out on the route each day - one showing the frontrunner (the officials riding out in front of the trial), six showing the progress of riders throughout the day (spread across the entry field) and the final one with our backmarkers showing the very end of the trial.  This system is only made possible through the support of UPY, manufacters of The UPY Liftbike, so we're extremely grateful to them....go and have a look at their website!

Today's Route

As most of you will already be aware, the trial had an unavoidable disruption today when a motorcyclist (unrelated to the trial) was killed in a fatal road traffic collision on this side of Spean Bridge.  That was on our route out to Laggan Locks, and so we had to hold all riders who weren't already past Spean Bridge back until such time as we could divert the trial elsewhere.

That's meant that the trial has been held up for around 45 minutes and as a result we've had to drop a group of four sections at the end of the day.  The Glas Bheinn group won't be run today - all riders will be given cleans through those four sections.  Most riders left the Parc Ferme later than planned, which means everyone will be around 45 minutes later home tonight too.

SSDT Webcams

webcamWhy not check out our webcams too?  You can see the bikes as they filter back into the Parc Ferme, and you also get to see a bit of the action around the SSDT Hub.

Peripheral Events

WEvents In The Tent Poster edited-1e don't have any events planned in the SSDT Hub tonight (which works out quite well, as I think it's going to be a late one!) but you can see our schedule for the rest of the week here....next event is tomorrow night's Pub Quzi!

Keeping up with the latest news...

FacebookWe'll update this blog every so often throughout the day, with the newest additions at the top of the article.  Smaller pieces of news will be on our Facebook and Twitter feeds - we'll update from here in the office, but you'll also get snippets as and when time (and signal!) allows from Jake Miller of G2F Media when he's out and about at the sections.  He's our eyes and ears on the ground and will know much more of what is going on than we do!

And finally...

Monday is brought to you courtesy of our daily sponsors Hope Technology and Masham Sausages.  Find out more about them by clicking on the icons below!

09:30 : Holding Statement

Full details of today's route and progress will follow shortly.

Today's trial has been disrupted due to a fatal road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist on the A82, just west of Spean Bridge.

The accident is in no way connected with the Scottish Six Days Trial, but has a direct impact on the event as the road has been closed, and will be for some hours yet as accident investigations take place.

Further details will be provided as soon as we have enough time here in the office to sit down.  In the meantime, our thoughts are with the friends and family of those involved in the accident.

Why not check out our webcams too!  They're not at the sections I'm afraid, but you can see what's going on at the Parc Ferme and in the SSDT Hub by checking out the SSDT Webcams in the Gallery menu.  Don't pay too much attention to the one at the top right now....it's not still dark in the Fort, I promise!  Fergus The IT Guru will reset that just as soon as he finds ladders high enough to reach it.  :0)
