Liability Insurance Important Reminder
- Saturday, 15 April 2017
With this year's SSDT just round the corner it is vital that every rider is aware of and complies with the insurance requirements for competing in the event and that third party insurance cover is in place for the duration of the Trial that specifically covers Reliability Trials. Note that the blanket RTA cover in place via the ACU does NOT provide cover for the Scottish Six Days Trial.
As detailed in Point 2.1 of the SSDT Supplementary Regulations:
RTA insurance is available through the club at sign on and this will cover you ONLY when under the explicit direction of the Clerk of the Course when taking part in the Sunday parade or during the trial when you are riding on the designated route and in possession of a route card. Outside of those times your own insurance cover will apply.
R.E.I.S Reliability Trials RTA Cover
Competitors must have Insurance in place which provides Third Party Liability cover that complies with the Road Traffic Act.
This can be an extension to the existing motor policy for the vehicle or purchased via the event organisers. If a competitor uses an extension to an existing policy, they will be required to sign a declaration that the cover complies with the requirements of the Road Traffic Act.
Any responsibility for a fraudulent or misleading declaration about existing cover lies with the competitor.
If a competitor wishes purchase cover via the organisers then they can do so prior to the event providing they comply with the following:
Age 19 years or over
Has held a full license for a minimum of 6 months
Has no more than 6 points on their license
Has had no more than 1 fault claim in the last 3 years
The vehicle Has valid tax and MOT
If you cannot comply with these limits you may be offered cover at the standard price (or a higher price) depending on circumstances.
You MUST obtain agreement for cover from REIS well in advance of the event.
Your communication should include the reason why you cannot comply with the conditions above.
The SSDT 2017 RTA scheme is provided by REIS and underwritten by Zenith Marque Insurance Service Ltd.
