Just One Day To Go Till 2019 SSDT
With scrutineering having been completed today, all rider machines are now safely locked in the Fort William parc ferme ready to burst into action in the morning as the 2019 Scottish Six Days Trial gets underway. Today, the Edinburgh and District Club's scrutineers worked as efficiently as ever to both check and officially mark each competitor's machine whilst the office crew were equally diligent with the riders' paperwork to ensure full legality, which is obviously of the utmost importance with such a high profile event.
Following technical control competitors then gathered in order to take part in the official cavalcade down Fort William High Street. This is quite a spectacle, capturing the imagination of locals and tourists alike and an occasion that the foreign competitors particularly enjoy. The high point was the Coast Rican riders who turned out as dinosaurs, advertising their country's Jurassic Three Day Trial!
With official preliminaries now complete, it is time to look forward to the tomorrow when, at 7.30am the first rider away, popular Catalan Carles Casas, starts his 30th Scottish Six Days Trial and will be flagged down the start ramp by 2019 Guest of Honour, 1969 SSDT winner Bill Wilkinson, to be followed by the rest of the International field at one minute intervals.
Hot Trial favourite Dougie Lampkin (#73) will leave the start at 8.43am ready to take on the opening day's 71 miles and 30 observed hills in his quest for an incredible 13 SSDT victories.
